PLATEAU ROLL OUT GRAND VISION 2O25-2050 FOR URBAN RENEWAL OF JOS GREATER MASTER PLAN

The Plateau State Government under the auspices of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has organized a one day critical stakeholder meeting for the review  of the greater Jos Master plan which is expected to last for 25 years. 

The Workshop took place at the Millennium Hotel and event centre Jos, Nigeria on Thursday 16 April 2026 and  was tagged the "The Greater Jos Masterplan 2025-2050" the event drew a high stakeholder attendance drawing attendees from cutting across religious bodies, civil society and community based organizations. 

Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development Plateau State Hon Sylvanus Dongtoe set the pace with the theme 

"Restoring Order, Functionality and pride" 

Restraining that the entire master plan rejig is a strategic plan of the Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang administration to develop the state into a model city with high class urban facilities which will ensure a better quality of life for residents. 

He said 
"Cities evolve with time but without deliberate and coordinated planning growth becomes chaotic and and unsustainable
What we are doing today aligns with his Excellency's vision to restore order to the greater Jos master plan"

Hon. Dongtoe revealed that previous planning efforts between 1972 and 2008 had become obsolete and suffered weak implementation while the city has grown in population from about 17,000 residents in 1972 to over 2.5 million today putting a strain on informal settlements,the environment,traffic management and other social cultural indices. 

Adding that 

"Crucially the new approach breaks from past top down models. Dongtoe stressed that the Mutfwang administration is adopting a participatory framework that places stakeholders at the forefront of the process. 
Speaking with journalists on the sidelines he said this was not demolition but creating an Eco friendly metropolis.

The planning process is being lead by a consortium of reputable organizations which include Max International Associates(UK),Max Lock Nigeria and Partners, Stee Consult Limited and other relevant experts.
The Workshop was later broken into technical sessions to DRAW up a final Master plan for the Greater Jos 2025-2050.
