Head Of Military Office Of Iran's Supreme Leader Killed In IDF Strike
The Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday that it eliminated Abu al-Qassem Baba’iyan in an airstrikes,in Tehran, describing him as the head of the military office of Iran’s Supreme Leader and a senior figure involved in coordinating military activity against Israel.
According to the IDF, the Israeli Air Force carried out the strike on Saturday based on “precise intelligence from the IDF Intelligence Directorate.” The military said Baba’iyan also served as chief of staff of the emergency command of headquarters, known as Khatam al-Anbiya.
The IDF said Baba’iyan “was responsible for coordinating between the Iranian terror regime’s various force employment organizations to execute operations against the State of Israel and emergency operations.” The military described his role as linking senior Iranian military bodies involved in planning and directing operations.
Baba’iyan had recently been appointed as the designated chief of staff for the office following the killing of Mohammad Shirazi, the military chief of staff of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, during the opening strike of Operation Roaring Lion, according to the Israeli military.
The IDF also said Baba’iyan had been appointed chief of staff of the emergency headquarters after his predecessor, Ali Shadmani, was eliminated during Operation Rising Lion. In that role, the military said he maintained close ties with senior Iranian military and political leadership.
The strike is part of what the IDF described as a broader campaign targeting senior figures in Iran’s leadership structure since the start of Operation Roaring Lion. The military said the operation aims to degrade the Iranian leadership’s ability to advance military activities against Israel.
