The Plateau State Governor Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has expressed profound sorrow over the unfortunate lynching and killing of traders attacked along the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau state recently.
The victims were traveling from Jos to Pankshin for business when the tragic incident occurred.
In a show of support a high powered delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government Arc Samuel Nanchan Jatau who represented Governor Caleb Mutfwang paid a condolence visit to the bereaved families at Gangare Community in Jos North Local Government Area on Thursday 26 February 2027.
He reassured them of government's full support during this difficult and painful period and assured that justice will be served to the evil doers.
Architect Jatau said
“We are here to console the families, to show that we feel the pain of what has happened, and to assure you that justice will be meted out. Government and security agencies are working day and night to fish out the perpetrators of these attacks.”
He further stated that security agencies have been directed to intensify efforts to arrest those responsible. He stressed that the attacks should not be allowed to reverse the relative peace the state has recently enjoyed.
“We have been enjoying peace for some time, and we must learn to find a meeting point to live together in peace, because we did not choose our religion or background.”
He also noted that investigations are ongoing. He described the victims as innocent people who lost their lives while engaged in their legitimate business activities.
He urged community leaders, youths, and residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, especially on social media.
“False and inciting posts could worsen the situation rather than help the state heal and move forward.”
On his part the Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Barr. John Kyohroh Christopher who accompanied the SGS thanked the state government and security agencies for standing with the affected families.
“We want to especially appreciate Your Excellency for taking time out of your tight schedule to visit us. From the beginning, you have been on top of this situation and have played a major role in ensuring stability and proper handling of the matter.”
He lamented that the victims were residents who lost their lives while traveling for legitimate purposes while adding that the government’s swift intervention ensured proper investigations and a dignified burial for the deceased in line with Islamic rites.
Alhaji Sani Muazu, the Makaman of Jos North, described the incident as a painful moment that disrupted a long period of relative peace. He said the attack revived fear and tension, particularly among the youth.
“As community leaders, we met with the families and assured them that we have a listening government and that this is a time when peace is needed even more than before. Despite the pain, our people showed restraint and understanding.”
He commended local government officials and others involved in rescue efforts. He called on the government to ensure the perpetrators are identified and punished to prevent future occurrences.
Alhaji Muazu urged continued support for the bereaved families to help them cope with their loss and regain trust in the system as the victims were breadwinners of their various families hence making the incident particularly heart breaking.
Others on the entourage included the Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy Hon. Bashir Lawandi Datti and the member Representing Plateau North/North in the State House of Assembly Hon. Adamu Aliyu amongst others.
