SHERE COMMUNITY IN JOS EAST CELEBRATE NEW YEAR FESTIVAL WITH POMP, PAGEANTRY AND CULTURAL DISPLAY.

In the serene hills of Shere in Jos East local Government Area of Plateau State an annual cultural festival celebrating the new year has become interwoven with the lives of the people as indigenous people from far and wide gather to showcase their various traditions through cultural displays and performances.
The yearly event tagged the "AYM NEW YEAR CULTURAL CELEBRATION" held at the Shere Zakim Primary School on Saturday 10 January 2026 with a mammoth crowd of dignitaries and citizens united in joyous celebrations ushering the dawn of a new year.
Speaking at this year's event the Chairman of Jos East local Government Area Hon Markus Usaini Nyam described the festival as a recurring decimal in the lives of the people and noted that the festival has been expanded to include lectures,carnival and outreach programs and started on January 4th 2026 culminating in the grand finale on Saturday 9 January 2026. 

On developmental strides in Jos East the Chairman briefly disclosed that two primary Healthcare centres have been constructed, several road projects and culverts are ongoing and will be completed before the expiration of his tenure as Chairman while in the area of support for indigent students JAMB forms have been purchased for 230 of them while a 100 have had their WAEC fees fully paid for  by his administration amongst various interventions. 

Speaking on the sidelines the immediate past Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Jos branch Izang Aware, Esq who is also an aspirant for the Chairmanship of Jos East under the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the forthcoming Plateau State local government elections coming up in September 2026 commended the organizers of this year's event for packaging a memorable edition and promised to support the construction of a befitting townhall for the  community. 
Represented by Hon Nancham Lapshak the Chairman of Langtang South Hon Alhassan Nbin  who was also the Chairman of the occasion said his principal was delighted in associating with the Shere people as the share similar culture and norms with the Shere people and hence had come express solidarity with them. 
The wife of the Chairman of Jos East Mrs Comfort Usaini Nyam praised the organizers for their selflessness and also recounted how the current administration of her husband was impacting on the lives of women and children in Jos East through health care programs,she also lauded the wife of Plateau State governor Barrister (Mrs) Helen Mutfwang who has collaborated with the wives of local government chairmen in the state to bring issues and welfare of women the girl child and child care to the front burner through several interventions which have been timely and has brought succor to many. 
A house of Representative aspirant for the Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency in the forthcoming 2027 national assembly elections Prince Simon Chiroma Dangyang elections said he was to identify with the Shere people and assured of engaging the youths in his constituency constructively if elected into office to curb drug abuse and restiveness. 

The wife of the Chairman of Riyom local government  Mrs Sati Shuwa also delivered a good will message. 
The highpoint of the festival was the arrival of the Adagwom IZERE HRH Rev Dr. Isaac Wakili Azi who is the royal custodian of the festival. 

A March past of cultural dances were held in his honour after which he offered prayers for a successful year for the entire Izere nation. 

As dusk settled in Shere, citizens eagerly await the next edition of this most colourful cultural celebration that captures the lives of the Izere.
