HOW VWANG UNITY CUP IS PROMOTING PEACE AND A DRUG FREE COMMUNITY THROUGH FOOTBALL

The Vwang Unity Cup a community driven football competition founded by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to thePlateau State Governor Dr Gyang Bere in his Vwang district in Jos South local government of Plateau State is fast turning into a beacon of hope, unity and togetherness in the locality.
Addressing participants and spectators at this year's final which held at the Vwang community field in Vom on Sunday January 11 2026, Bere said;
"This initiative is already yielding measurable results as many players discovered during the maiden edition held last year have since secured opportunities outside the country with some currently playing professional football in Egypt and Europe thereby elevating the significance of the tournament in talent discovery and also designed to keep the youths off social vices and drug abuse amongst others and I thank my amiable governor and leader Barrister Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for his able support. "
Various community leaders at the finals including the World wide President of the Berom Educational and Cultural Organization(BECO) Da Gyang Dudu stressed that the tournament was fast becoming a unifier, peace building agent and youth inclusiveness and called for the construction of a standard football stadium in Vwang district to further upgrade the tournament.
The Chairman of Jos South local government Patrick Silas Dung in his goodwill message praised Dr Bere for his vision in promoting and sponsoring the tournament.
He commended the unity and discipline of participating teams while announcing a cash support of ₦500,000 for the winners, ₦300,000 for the runners up and ₦200,000 for the 3rd place winners.
This year's final was between Turu United and Vwang Central with Turu who are the defending champions carrying the day with a one nil victory over Vwang.
Trophies and medals were presented to the winners,Turu United,2nd placed team Vwang Central and 3rd place Chugwi youngsters while all competing teams got cash incentives. Individual players were also rewarded for excellence.
The competition surely has come to stay in the sports landscape of Vwang community as citizens eagerly look forward to the next edition.
