JUST IN: BBC Boss Resigns Amid Backlash Over Trump Documentary Edit

The Director-General of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Tim Davie, has resigned following intense criticism over the network’s handling of a controversial documentary on former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The fallout began after BBC’s Panorama programme aired an edited version of Trump’s 2021 Capitol speech, allegedly omitting his call for peaceful protest. The edit sparked outrage among conservatives and media critics who accused the BBC of deliberate bias.

In his resignation letter, Davie admitted that “mistakes were made” and said it was time for “new leadership to restore confidence and unity.” BBC’s Head of News, Deborah Turness, also stepped down, citing damage caused by the controversy but rejecting claims of institutional bias.

The British government has since called for an inquiry into editorial standards at the BBC. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy described the matter as “deeply concerning” and pledged full transparency.

Meanwhile, allies of Donald Trump in the U.S. praised the resignations, describing them as “a victory for media accountability.”

The BBC board has confirmed that an interim leadership team will be appointed as the search begins for Davie’s replacement, ahead of the network’s 2027 charter review.
