PLATEAU HOSTS NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF DIRECTORS AND CHIEF ROAD TRAFFIC OFFICERS(VIOS) AS GOVERNOR MUTFWANG PLEDGES IMPROVED TRANSPORTATION ACCESS FOR CITIZENRY.

Jos the Plateau State Capital played  host to the annual national  conference of Directors and Chief Road Traffic Officers of the Federation from Monday October 27 to Thursday October 30 2025 at the Steffan Hotels and Suites in Jos South local government with the theme "Enhancing National.Security And Road Traffic Safety Through effective motor vehicle administration in Nigeria"

Delivering  his special remarks at the opening ceremony on Tuesday October 28 2025 Governor Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang represented by his Chief of Staff Bldr Jeremiah Satmark welcomed all delegates to Jos and assured them that Plateau remained the home of " Peace and Tourism and urged them to explore the vast tourism potential while wishing them a fruitful deliberation in charting a future roadmap for vehicle inspection in Nigeria and promised affordable mass transit for Plateau residents citing the Metro transit buses as an example of government's firm commitment to achieving that goal.

In her welcome address the Director of Vehicle Inspection in the Plateau State ministry of transport Lady Anna Mweltok welcomed her colleagues and  commended the governor of Plateau State for his gender sensitivity noting that she was the only female director of vehicle inspection in the entire country while thanking him for providing uniforms and refurbishing two tow trucks  which had hitherto been abandoned to enhance and boost the efficiency of her officers she equally appealed for the recruitment of more  staff in the department as they were currently understaffed.

Commissioner for transport Hon. Davou Gyang Jatau expressed delight that the "Tin City" was chosen as this year's host he said.

"It may interest you to know that heavy duty  trucks no longer move during the daytime in the greater Jos metropolis thereby reducing the menace of road traffic accidents pointing also that going forward the state was going to digitize vehicle licences to curb the scourge of vehicle related crimes and noted that the "time is now" administration had greatly improved the welfare of the VIO's in the state through proper and standard kitting which has greatly enhanced staff morale"
Professor Shedrach Gaya Best the Vice Chancellor of the Plateau State University Bokkos who delivered the keynote speech on the lead theme" Enhancing national security and road traffic safety through effective motor vehicle administration in Nigeria" stressed that national security can only be assured if there is an overhaul of the system through the use of technology and other A.i tools while at the same time collaborating with sister agencies such as The Nigeria police,The Nigeria Immigration services,The Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) and the National identify Management Commission(NIMC) to achieve a unified data base to ensure more seamless operations to track criminality and unscrupulous elements such as terrorists and bandits through vehicle administration and inspection.
Prof  Best listed  challenges in the sector to include corruption,fake vehicle papers,competing agencies informal vehicles, poor welfare of officers amongst others while urging the discussants and delegates to strategize on ways of tackling these obvious lapses.

At the occasion Governor Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang  was investitured as the Grand Mayor of Vehicle Inspection Service.
Others who were investitured VIO ambassadors include Alhaji Auwwal Galla,Mrs Ayuku Pwaspo the Chairperson of the Plateau State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ),Sunday Choji and others.

Special Mayors of the Vehicle Inspection Service were also unveiled.
