Bauchi Government Creates New Emirates, Recognizes Sayawa (Zaar) Chiefdom
The Bauchi State Government has announced the creation of several new emirates and the formal recognition of the Sayawa (Zaar) Chiefdom, marking a historic restructuring of the state’s traditional leadership system.
The newly created emirates include:
1. Burra Emirate with headquarters in Burra
2. Duguri Emirate with headquarters in Yuli
3. Dambam Emirate with headquarters in Dambam
4. Bununu Emirate with headquarters in Bununu
5. Lere Emirate with headquarters in Lere
6. Darazo Emirate with headquarters in Darazo
7. Jama’a Emirate with headquarters in Nabardo
8. Lame Emirate with headquarters in Gumau
9. Toro Emirate with headquarters in Toro
10. Ari Emirate with headquarters in Gadar Maiwa
11. Warji Emirate with headquarters in Katangar Warji
12. Giade Emirate with headquarters in Giade
13. Gamawa Emirate with headquarters in Gamawa
In addition, the government has approved the establishment of the Sayawa (Zaar) Chiefdom with headquarters at Mhrim Namchi, fulfilling a long-standing demand by the Sayawa people for self-determination and cultural recognition.
The creation of these emirates is aimed at promoting inclusive governance, enhancing traditional administration, and bringing leadership closer to the grassroots.
