...Two Beneficiaries Depart for Liberty University, USA, Under Landmark Plateau State Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme
In a landmark stride toward educational excellence and global collaboration, the Plateau State Government has awarded postgraduate scholarships to ten exceptional indigenes to pursue advanced degrees in engineering at Liberty University, Lynchburg, West Virginia, United States of America.

This groundbreaking initiative is the direct outcome of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s strategic visit to Liberty University in 2023, aimed at expanding academic frontiers and fostering international opportunities for the State’s brightest minds. The partnership has now materialized, with the first set of beneficiaries, Sunday G. Joseph and Nansar Clement Jangfa, formally presented to the Governor at the Government House, Rayfield, on Friday, August 1, 2025, before departing for their Master’s degree programmes.
Addressing the departing students, Governor Mutfwang described the initiative as a transformational investment in Plateau’s future.

“This is not just a scholarship; it is a bold investment in the future of Plateau State,” the Governor stated. “You are not just going abroad to study, you are going as ambassadors of our people. Add value to yourselves and return equipped with the competence and vision to drive our development.”

The event was attended by top government officials, including representatives of the Ministry of Education and the Plateau State Scholarship Board. Executive Secretary of the Board, Mr. Nankus Ngwalang, emphasized that the selection process was transparent and merit-driven.

“We ensured strict adherence to due process. The outcomes reflect both academic excellence and equitable representation across local government areas.”

Mr. Ngwalang explained that following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the State and Liberty University, the Ministry of Higher Education opened applications for eligible candidates. A total of 91 applications were received, 74 for Master’s degrees and 17 for Ph.D. programmes. After rigorous aptitude tests and academic evaluations weighted at 50%, the top ten candidates were selected for the programme.
Ph.D. Candidates Recommended:

2. Dawar Katfun Philemon (Pankshin) – Telecommunications Engineering

3. Martins Dazang Dung (Jos South) – Construction Engineering

4. Sabo David Nakada (Bassa) – Electrical Engineering

5. Bulus Azi Atang (Jos North) – Electrical Engineering

Having secured both admission offers and U.S. visa approvals, Jangfa and Joseph are the first to embark on their academic journey under the initiative. Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the duo expressed profound gratitude to Governor Mutfwang and the Plateau State Government.

“We are deeply grateful for this golden opportunity. We promise to remain focused and return better equipped to contribute meaningfully to Plateau State’s growth.”

Liberty University, one of the largest private, non-profit universities in the United States, offers over 700 academic programs across 15 colleges and schools, including engineering, sciences, law, medicine, and the humanities.
With the 2025/2026 academic session commencing on August 4, Plateau State’s renewed vision for human capital development is gaining ground. This initiative not only underscores the Mutfwang administration’s commitment to educational transformation but also sets a powerful precedent for youth empowerment, global academic exchange, and the nurturing of future-ready leadership.
