JUTH NOW OFFERING FREE ANTI SNAKE VENOM AND OTHER SERVICES UNDER THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE AND AMBULANCE SYSTEM (NEMSAS)-CMD BUPWATDA
Relief may have come to citizens especially the poor and rural dwellers on the Plateau in their quest to access quality and affordable healthcare.
This was disclosed to journalists by the Chief Medical Director of the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) Dr Pokop Bupwatda recently on the sidelines of the Plateau State 11th Council on Health, holding at Crispan Suites and Event Center, Jos, North Central Nigeria on Tuesday August 19 2025.
Dr Bupwatda said the Federal Government has through the leadership of the Honorable Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate, and the Renewed Hope initiative of Mr President, His Excellency. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, introduced and implemented the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS)where by anyone that comes to access care within 48 hours, are treated free of charge adding that the Plateau State Government too has keyed into that.
He stressed that "when there are emergencies such as, accidents, gunshot wounds, pregnant women, under 5 children, and snake bites, are all included in the NEMSAS whereby they are treated free of charge within 48 hours of getting to the hospital"
While recounting that "anti snake venoms are very expensive, one vial cost about N130,000. You can imagine when a poisonous snake bites a poor peasant in the rural area, they will have to cough out N130,000, you can imagine if they have to use two vials, that will be N260,000 to treat that person, but now it is free because of the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) which the Plateau State Government has started keying into it, JUTH has started implementing it". Bupwatda revealed.
This revelation is coming on the heels of Governor Caleb Mutfwang's renewed efforts in prioritizing quality and affordable healthcare delivery to the people of Plateau State.
It would be recalled that Governor of Plateau State declared open a 3 day 11th Plateau State Council on Health summit recently to brainstorm on bringing out a healthcare policy that will meet the Universal Healthcare Coverage in Plateau State on Tuesday August 19.2025.
