PLATEAU STATE SET TO RESUME FULL TRAIN SERVICES IN COLLABORATION WITH THE NIGERIA RAILWAY CORPORATION- DAVOU JATAU


Plateau State Commissioner for transport Hon.Davou Gyang Jatau has disclosed that the Plateau State Government and Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC have concluded plans to fully resume train services within Jos and Bukuru metropolis after a lull that followed test-run of the trains and other facilities. 

Recall that, In a bid to alleviate the excruciating sufferings of Plateau citizens occasioned by the removal of fuel Subsidy, the Plateau state Government under the leadership of His Excellency Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang undertook rehabilitation of Railway lines and Rolling stocks along Jos, Bukuru to Kuru axis. 

The completed overhaul and repairs of trains was completed in May, 2024 and a test-run carried out from May 29th 2024 to December 2024.

According to the Commissioner for Transport Plateau State, Hon. Davou Jatau the train services came to a halt in December, 2024 because Nigerian Railway Corporation was supposed to assume operational  responsibilities of the train services in January, 2025

He highlighted some possible factors are behind  reasons why NRC could not take over the operations in January 2025 but assured Plateau people that an understanding has been reached with the NRC to take over operations.

The Commissioner said a date for the project flag-off is shall be communicated to members of the public soon, for continuation of train operation in the the designated routes since the test- run service have been successfully concluded, noting that the next phase of operations in the sector will be hitch-free. 

Jatau further mentioned that the singular gesture by the state Government  that led to introduction of the train services has attracted attention of Federal Government to rehabilitate the Heipang-Bauchi-Gombe Rail Line and Hoss- Kafanchang Rail-line to enhance bilateral relationship between the connecting states which will.also boost economic activities.
